KEY WORLD PLAYER ENERGY
The development of the port and the development of natural gas are now complementary. Suriname is in the privileged position to meet the urgent global energy needs.
Europe is now facing its worst energy crisis since World War II. Due to the current energy crisis in the world, the demand of gas from other sources has increased more than ever. This has positioned Suriname to become a key player in the new energy market.
PRODUCING GAS
This year, the President and the Government of Suriname have stated that Suriname wants to produce gas by 2025. The first tenant at the port, Firebird LNG, is currently working on the realization of this goal.
LNG Export is the accelerator of this port project. In July 2022, Firebird LNG purchased a power plant from Siemens to power its LNG facilities and port facilities, and is working towards LNG export in 2025.
